It’d be exciting to see Automation Specialist or No Coder In Residence or Digital Operations job roles in the market. The title is less important than what these dedicated roles would do. What would they do? They would take an operational, consultative approach to internal processes and develop automations and bespoke platforms using AI and No Code tools to build internal solutions, targeting inhibitors of growth, collaboration, and insights.
Traditionally, when an operational opportunity can be solved with code, teams typically purchase generic SaaS or pull resources internally (e.g. technical operations people or engineers) to develop spreadsheet-based solutions in their spare time. Neither of these approaches takes advantage of the full opportunity available.
With AI and No Code tools (like Airtable, Zapier and OpenAI), a person in an Automation Specialist role could go around and develop automations and internal tools that would have the dual benefit of 1) cutting down on under-utilized SaaS subscriptions and 2) scale teams’ processes, communications, and reporting with bespoke internal tools and automations.
Example projects could look like developing automated reporting dashboards, launching bespoke project management tooling, and automating approval processes across complex workflows. All of these could be scoped and developed by a single, dedicated Automation Specialist and require a small set of the same tools, cutting down software costs and drastically increasing efficiency across a team, department, or organization.
I’d be curious if anyone has seen this type of role internally at their company or sees this being a valuable addition to their full-time team.
