Zapier Or Make For No Code Automation

June 16, 2023 | Garrett Houghton

If you're looking to automate a digital product or service across multiple tools without coding, there's two major platforms you can choose from that are best-in-class for this use case: Zapier and Make. So, which one should you choose? I've used both extensively, and in this post, I outline the pros and cons of both tools.

Zapier

Zapier is a powerful automation tool that connects various web applications, enabling you to automate repetitive tasks and streamline workflows. Zapier has an extensive app library, with over 5,000 apps for integration. The company has been moving fast on all things AI, which is impressive. In addition, Zapier is extending its tooling from just automation to a whole suite of tools, including Interfaces, Tables, and more, which makes me think they are working towards being an all-in-one application for building no code products and services.

Pros:

-Extensive integration library

-AI capabilities

-Trouble-shooting logs

-Ease of use

-Native tools (Scheduler, Formatter, etc.)

-Suite of tools (Interfaces, Tables, etc.)

Cons:

-Expensive

Make

Make.com (fka Integromat) is the main competitor to Zapier. Make is an advanced automation platform that, similarly to Zapier, streamlines workflows and integrations to various apps and services. It has similar automation features to Zapier and an extensive library of integrations. It's significantly cheaper than Zapier, which is a major plus for the tool; however, I find Make to be much harder to navigate. I find it more challenging to build automations and trouble-shoot when issues arise. But, it can absolutely get the job done for the majority of no code automation tasks.

Pros:

-Extensive integration library

-Inexpensive

Cons:

-Non-intuitive interface

-Confusing trouble-shooting logs

-Less AI features

Conclusion

You can probably see where my recommendation will go. My preference is to use Zapier for all no code automation. However, I find that Make is an excellent compliment to Zapier in two scenarios: 1) price: if you have a lower budget and have a higher sensitivity to price for your project, Make is a great choice 2) If Zapier is missing the integration you need: Zapier has a ton of integrations, but sometimes, it's missing a specific one you need. In this scenario, I've found Make sometimes has the integration. This is another great reason to look to Make for a project as well.
